Transcribing Oral History Workshop.  A hands-on workshop covering: the importance of transcribing oral history interviews and the consequences of inaccurate transcripts; the difference between spoken and written English and its significance for transcripts; setting out transcripts; transcription dilemmas; hints for improving the value of transcripts; useful software; is voice recognition software a reasonable substitute; using oral history transcripts.  Friday 27 March, 2020.  The workshop will be run online; instructions will be provided to registrants about how to participate.

Daring to be different exhibition. This exhibition explores LGBT lives from the 1950s to the present, and focuses on the challenges that LGBT people have faced, as well as their contributions and achievements. Oral History Australia SA/NT workshop participants have been involved in developing the exhibition. Migration Museum, Adelaide. 1 May to 24 November 2019.  10 am – 5pm daily.  Free entry.

Oral History Australia SA/NT AGM with guest speaker Dr Carolyn Collins, on 9 August 2019 at the State Library of South Australia.  Carolyn’s presentation will be on Protests with my Mum: Family, Memory, and Activism, about a group of Sydney mothers who formed the grassroots Save Our Sons movement to protest the Vietnam War.

The love that dared not celebrate its name!
Listen to stories of rainbow lives recorded as part of an oral history project aiming to capture the lived experience of South Australian rainbow elders; lives traversing closeted days of criminalisation, discrimination and repression into a more accepting 21st century.  The project evolved from ECH-sponsored oral history workshops in collaboration with Oral History Australia SA/NT and the State Library of South Australia. Thursday 30 May 2019, 5 pm – 7 pm, at the Migration Museum, Kintore Avenue, Adelaide.

History of the people, by the people, for the people
This event will showcase the fascinating and diverse projects undertaken by volunteers in a joint Oral History Australia SA/NT, ECH and State Library program to learn oral history interviewing and multimedia techniques.  Hear group members share their experiences and interviews with older lesbians, gay men, gardeners and social innovators. Growing the social fabric: an oral history presentation
This oral history project looks at the origin and current development of the Grow, Grow, Grow Your Own gardening workshop group, based in Unley.  Seven members of the coordinating committee were interviewed about the relevance of the group to current social and environmental issues – including social inclusion, community interaction, active ageing, food security, and climate change.  Excerpts from the interviews are included in the poster presentation. 13 May – 17 May 2019 at Unley Civic Library, 181 Unley Road, Unley.
